Field Trip Anyone? There's Nothing Like It!

As we are located in Milford, Connecticut, we obviously cannot list all of the places you can go for a great class field trip. However, If you are in the New England area and are looking for a place for a fun filled day in the form of an educational field trip, then we have the answer for you right in our home State of Connecticut. These are just a handful of places to go and visit!

Here is a "perfect trip" right in our backyard that will help our children and leaders of the future learn about energy conservation! This is a topic we all have a vested interest in.

The SmartLiving Center is funded by the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund and operated by The United Illuminating Company

The SmartLiving Center features hands-on activities for kids of all ages, along with an array of resources. The purpose of the tour is to educate children regarding the effects of our present day lifestyle on natural resources. The intent of this tour is to teach a positive approach to personal changes that may enhance lifestyles, (through comfort and savings), and the lifelong awareness of energy efficiency. Tours are "FREE" and there is a bus reimbursement up to $200.00.

The SmartLiving Center is funded by the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund and operated by The United Illuminating Company. For more information about the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund, log on to www.CTEnergyInfo.com. Hours of operation are M-F 10:00-6:00p.m. Saturdays 10:00-4:00p.m.

  •   Simon Lake Elementary School - Simon Lake School is one of the first schools in Connecticut to offer the Leveled Literacy Intervention Program developed by Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This is a small group instructional model for children in Kindergarten and Grades 1 and 2. The program is offered by two highly trained teachers and is designed as an additional safety net for students who find reading and writing difficult to learn.
    All classrooms at Simon Lake have at least 3 computers. A computer lab and two mini-labs are also used to assist with instruction, which includes remediation and enrichment. A variety of software is used and incorporated into daily lessons.

  •   Stepping Stones Museum for Children - What to Expect -- Fun -- and lots of it! Learning and fun go hand-in-hand at Stepping Stones. Our exhibits and educational programs help expand a child's world by engaging them in fun, playful exploration. With four main galleries, a toddlers-only gallery and over 100 hands-on activities, Stepping Stones offers children ages ten and under plenty to explore and discover.

  •   Schooner Sound Learning | Learn, Explore, Protect Groups of people as young as pre-schoolers through senior citizens explore life in the salt marshes, sandy beaches, rocky intertidal areas and mud flats -- all places where the land meets the sea. Groups come to our field site at Lighthouse Point, or we use the field site of their choice. We bring programs into classrooms, libraries and meeting halls. Many of our programs include live marine animals. Others include hands-on water experiments, stories of the sea or discussions about whales.

    The Great Hudson River Revival is produced by the nonprofit, member-supported, environmental organization, Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, Inc. to raise funds and consciousness on the plight of the river and the earth. All proceeds go directly to support Clearwater's environmental research, education and advocacy to help preserve and protect the Hudson River and its tributaries, as well as communities in the river valley.

    Clearwater’s environmental education programs now serve more than 15,000 students annually, and the organization also educates over 200 teachers each year through SUNY New Paltz, Pace University and other institutions. Clearwater’s members have helped advocate for the Clean Water Act, the Hudson River Park Act, and removal of PCB’s from the Hudson.
